Marisa Rivera must serve the entire prison term before becoming eligible for parole, according to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw.

Rivera was convicted in January of first-degree murder and weapons offenses in the death of 56-year-old Denise DeNapoli, who was discovered in the apartment they shared in Ramblewood Village, the prosecutor said. She was sentenced on Friday, March 8.

The investigation began after Mount Laurel police discovered DeNapoli's body on Sept. 6, 2019, during a wellness check, Bradshaw said. Co-workers had not heard from DeNapoli who was scheduled to work from home that day, she said.

The investigation revealed that Rivera killed her mother earlier that day at approximately 3:30 a.m. and then fled the apartment, Bradshaw said.

Rivera was located several hours later at a Route 73 hotel and taken into custody without incident by Mount Laurel police officers, she said.

An autopsy performed by the Burlington County Medical Examiner’s Officer determined that DeNapoli’s death was due to multiple stab wounds, she said.

Testimony presented at trial late last year indicated the relationship between the defendant and the victim had been "steadily deteriorating," the prosecutor said.
